Today, Friday September 4th, is our 16th wedding anniversary. Two phrases out of the Anglican marriage service seem very relevant: "in sickness and in health" and "until death do us part". The latter is the title of a sweet and sad Paul Kelly song. Coincidentally, there's a version available for free download (http://www.paulkelly.com.au/A-Z/) this month, although it requires a little bit of effort to register. I'm aware from previous posts that quoting lyrics doesn't do much justice to the emotional impact of a song, so have a listen. It seemed appropriate, since a love of Paul Kelly's music was one of the many things that Jen and I shared.
This is such a beautiful photograph - thank you for sharing it.
ReplyDeletePaul Kelly has written a couple of things for The Monthly recently. Not surprisingly for such a great songwriter, he's a good writer in this format too. He's got some sweet touches of detail about domestic life and love in there, even in relation to topics where you mightn't expect it (making a compilation tape, for example). When you hear his songs, such as those on Stolen Apples it's clear that Paul knows a thing or two about love (as on "39" - in respect of which, when I first heard it as a 39-year-old, I blessed his name).
